Prayers (A-Z)

Jesus, Lamb of God,
when you walked this earth
you did not consider
heavenly equality,
though that was yours to choose,
but took the role of servant,
and in humility
and obedience
allowed the rough nails of our sin
to be hammered into your flesh
for the sake of our salvation.
And so it is 
that we acknowledge you 
as Lord of all,
to the glory of God the Father, 
Son and Spirit, Three.

Most loving Jesus, I humbly beseech Thee that Thou wouldst Thyself offer to Thine eternal Father, on behalf of the Holy Souls in Purgatory, Thy Most Precious Blood, which poured forth from the Sacred Wounds of Thine adorable Body, together with Thine agony and death. 

And do thou likewise, O sorrowful Virgin Mary, present unto the Heavenly Father, together with the dolorous passion of thy dear Son, thine own sighs and tears, and all the sorrows thou didst suffer in His suffering, in order that, through the merits of the same, refreshment may be granted to the souls now suffering in the fiery torments of Purgatory, so that, being delivered from that painful prison, they may be clothed with glory in Heaven, there to sing the mercies of God for ever and ever.

Amen.

Absolve, O Lord, the souls of all the faithful departed from every bond of sin, that by Thy gracious assistance they may deserve to escape the judgement of vengeance and enjoy the blessedness of everlasting light.

Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy on me, a sinner.

O Divine Saviour! I thank Thee for having perpetuated Thy humble, obedient, self-sacrificing and recollected silence of Nazareth in the tabernacle. How Thy example puts me to shame! Forgive me for my bold, self-seeking, and superficial talkativeness. Teach me to understand the words: “In silence and in hope shall your strength be.”

Jesus, the very thought of Thee With sweetness fills the breast! Yet sweeter far Thy face to see And in Thy presence rest.

No voice can sing, no heart can frame, Nor can the memory find, A sweeter sound than Jesus’ name, The Saviour of mankind.

O hope of every contrite heart! O joy of all the meek! To those who fall, how kind Thou art! How good to those who seek!

But what to those who find? Ah ! this Nor tongue nor pen can show – The love of Jesus, what it is, None but His loved ones know.

Jesus! our only hope be Thou, As Thou our prize shalt be; In Thee be all our glory now, And through eternity.

O glorious Saint John Bosco, who in order to lead young people to the feet of the divine Master and to mould them in the light of faith and Christian morality didst heroically sacrifice thyself to the very end of thy life and didst set up a proper religious Institute destined to endure and to bring to the farthest boundaries of the earth thy glorious work, obtain also for us from Our Lord a holy love for young people who are exposed to so many seductions in order that we may generously spend ourselves in supporting them against the snares of the devil, in keeping them safe from the dangers of the world, and in guiding them, pure and holy, in the path that leads to God.

Amen.

I love You, O my God, and my only desire is to love You until the last breath of my life. 

I love You, O my infinitely lovable God, and I would rather die loving You, than live without loving You. 

I love You, Lord and the only grace I ask is to love You eternally…
My God, if my tongue cannot say in every moment that I love You, I want my heart to repeat it to You as often as I draw breath.

O Blessed Saint Joseph, faithful guardian and protector of virgins, to whom God entrusted Jesus and Mary, I implore you by the love which you did bear them, to preserve me from every defilement of soul and body, that I may always serve them in holiness and purity of love.

Glorious Saint Joseph, 
pattern of all who are devoted to toil, 
obtain for me the grace to toil in the spirit of penance, 
in order thereby to atone for my many sins; 
to toil conscientiously, 

putting devotion to duty before my own inclinations; 
to labour with thankfulness and joy, 
deeming it an honour to employ and to develop, 
by my labour, the gifts that I have received from Almighty 
God; 

to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, 
without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties; 
to work above all with a pure intention 
and with detachment from self, 
having always before my eyes the hour of death 
and the accounting which I must then render of time ill
spent, 

of talents unemployed, 
of good undone, 
and of my empty pride in success, 
which is so fatal to the work of God. 

All for Jesus, all through Mary, 
all in imitation of thee, O Patriarch Joseph! 
This shall be my motto in life and in death.

Glorious Saint Joseph, 
foster-father and protector of Jesus Christ, 
to you I raise my heart and my hands 
to implore your powerful intercession. 
Please obtain for me 
from the kind Heart of Jesus 
the help and the graces necessary 
for my spiritual and temporal welfare.
I ask particularly for the grace of a happy death 
and the special favor I now implore.
