Prayers (A-Z)

O Lord, the God of mercies, grant unto the souls of Thy servants the anniversary day of whose burial we are keeping, a place of solace, of peaceful rest, of glorious light.
Through Christ our Lord,

Amen.

God of power and mercy,
maker and love of peace,
to know you is to live,
and to serve you is to reign.
Through the intercession of St. Michael, the archangel,
be our protection in battle against all evil.
Help me [us] to overcome war and violence
and to establish your law of love and justice.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.

The special prayer either before or after the Wednesday evening meal is a selection from Psalm 21:23-32, in which we see through the eyes of David the picture of Christ suffering for us on the Cross. 
I will proclaim your name to my brethren: in the midst of the assembly I will praise you; “You who fear the Lord, praise him; all you descendants of Jacob, give glory to him; revere him, all you descendants of Israel! For he has not spurned nor disdained the wretched man in his misery Nor did he turn his face away from him, but when he cried out to him, he heard him.” So by your gift will I utter praise in the vast assembly; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear him. The lowly shall eat their fill; they who seek the Lord shall praise him: “May your hearts be ever merry!” All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; All the families of the nations shall bow down before him. For dominion is the Lord’s and he rules the nations. To him alone shall bow down all who sleep in the earth; Before him shall bend all who go down into the dust. And to him my soul shall live; my descendants shall serve him. Let the coming generation be told of the Lord that they may proclaim to a people yet to be born the justice he has shown.

Jesus, Divine Caller of vocations,
You invite some to chosen professions,
Others to distinctive spiritual work!
Your call may reflect one’s ambitions,
Or may be a command to a special calling.
Inspire me to always know within my heart,
What particular type of work is fitting
To do Your will at that particular time.
Your many callings vary immensely.
They are all reflections of Your Holiness.
Thank you for my heavenly calling and
For maintaining the vocation of Your choice!

Dear Angel, in His goodness 
God gave you to me to guide, protect, and enlighten me, 
and to bring me back to the right way when I go astray.

Encourage me when I am disheartened, 
and instruct me when I err in judgment.

Help me to become more Christlike, 
and so some day to be accepted 
into the company of Angels and Saints in heaven. 

Amen.

O Heavenly Patron, in whose name I glory, pray ever to God for me: strengthen me in my faith; establish me in virtue; guard me in the conflict; that I may vanquish the foe malign and attain to glory everlasting.

Eternal Father, I humbly adore and thank Thee for having created me, and for having redeemed me by means of Jesus Christ. 

I thank Thee for having made me a Christian by giving me the true faith, and by adopting me for Thy child in holy Baptism. 

I thank Thee for having given me time for repentance after my many sins, and for having, as I hope, pardoned all my offenses against Thee. O Infinite Goodness! 

I thank Thee also for having preserved me from falling again as often as i should have done if Thou hadst not held me up and saved me. But my enemies do not cease to fight against me, nor will they until death, that they may again have me for their slave; If Thou dost not keep and help me continually by Thine assistance, I shall be wretched enough to lose Thy grace anew. 

I therefore pray Thee, for the love of Jesus Christ, to grant me holy perseverance till death. Thy Son Jesus has promised that Thou wilt grant us whatever we ask for in His name. By the merits, then of Jesus Christ, 
I beg of Thee for myself, and for all those who are in Thy grace, the grace of never more being separated from Thy love, but that we may always love Thee in this life and in the next.

Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me.

Father in Heaven,
Protect us in our struggle against evil.
As we begin the discipline of Lent,
make this season holy by our self-denial.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God, for ever and ever.

ˇOh, Santísimo Jesús, que aquí sois verdaderamente Dios escondido; concededme desear ardientemente, buscar prudentemente, conocer verdaderamente y cumplir perfectamente en alabanza, y gloria de vuestro 

nombre todo lo que os agrada. Ordenad, ˇoh Dios mío!, el estado de mi vida; concededme que conozca lo que de mí queréis y que lo cumpla corno es menester y conviene a mi alma. Dadme, oh Seńor Dios mío, que 

no desfallezca entre las prosperidades y adversidades, para que ni en aquellas me ensalce, ni en éstas me abata. De ninguna cosa tenga gozo ni pena, sino de lo que lleva a Vos o aparta de Vos. A nadie desee 

agradar o tema desagradar sino a Vos. Séanme viles, Seńor, todas las cosas transitorias y preciosas todas las eternas. Disgústeme, Seńor, todo gozo sin Vos, y no ambicione cosa ninguna fuera de Vos. Séame

pertenece a vuestro servicio, hacer mis obras no por rutina, sino refiriéndolas a Vos con devoción. Hacedme, oh Jesús, amor mío y mi vida, obediente sin contradicción, pobre sin rebajamiento, casto sin 

corrupción, paciente sin disipación, maduro sin pesadumbre, diligente sin inconstancia, temeroso de Vos sin desesperación, veraz sin doblez; haced que practique el bien sin presunción que corrija al prójimo 

sin soberbia, que le edifique con palabras y obras sin fingimientos. Dadme, oh Seńor Dios mío, un corazón vigilante que por ningún pensamiento curioso se aparte de Vos; dadme un corazón noble que por ninguna 

intención siniestra se desvíe; dadme un corazón firme que por ninguna tribulación se quebrante; dadme un corazón libre que ninguna pasión violenta le domine. Otorgadme, oh Seńor Dios mío, entendimiento que 

os conozca, diligencia que os busque, sabiduría que os halle, comportamiento que os agrade, perseverancia que confiadamente os espere, y esperanza que, finalmente, os abrace. Dadme que me aflija con vuestras 

penas aquí por la penitencia, y en el camino de mi vida use de vuestros beneficios por gracia, y en la patria goce de vuestras alegrías por gloria. Seńor que vivís y reináis, Dios por todos los siglos de los 

siglos.

Padre, en tus manos me pongo,
