Holy Week Family Evening Prayer

Mother or child: From the words of Pope Pius XII On the Sacred Liturgy,
Dearly beloved, in Holy Week, when the most bitter sufferings of Jesus Christ are put before us by the liturgy, the Church invites us to come to Calvary and follow in the blood-stained footsteps of the Divine Redeemer, to carry the Cross willingly with Him, to reproduce in our hearts His spirit of expiation and atonement, and to die together with Him.

Father: We ought to glory in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ
Family: in whom is our salvation, life and resurrection.
Father: Let us pray. All-powerful, eternal God, you have chosen to give mankind a model of humility; our Saviour took on our flesh, and subjected Himself to the Cross. Grant us the grace to preserve faithfully the lessons He has given us in his Passion and to have a share in His resurrection. This we ask of You through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.

Family: Amen. Favour this dwelling, Lord, with Your presence. Far from it repulse all the wiles of Satan. Your holy angels, let them live here, to keep us in peace. And may Your blessing remain always upon us. This we ask of You through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Father: Let us bless the Lord
Family: Thanks be to God.
Father: May the almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless and keep us.
Family: Amen.

A Prayer in Honour of the Five Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ

O God, Come unto my assistance. R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the most holy Wound in Thy right Hand. I give Thee thanks for the infinite love, wherewith Thou didst will to suffer so many bitter pains because of my sins which I detest with all my heart; I implore Thee to grant graciously to Thy holy Church victory over all her enemies, and to all her children grace to walk in holiness in the way of Thy commandments.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy left Hand, and I beseech Thee for grace for all poor sinners, for the dying, and especially for those who will not be reconciled to Thee.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy right Foot, and I beg of Thee this grace, that countless flowers of holiness may blossom among the clergy and all those who are consecrated to Thee.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy left Foot, and implore Thee to deliver the holy souls in purgatory, and especially those who in life were most devout toward Thy sacred Wounds.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy most holy Side, and I pray Thee to bless and graciously hear all those who have recommended themselves to my prayers.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

V. O Virgin most sorrowful, R. Pray for us (to be repeated three times).
My Crucified Jesus, confirm these prayers by the merits of Thy Passion; give me holiness of life, the grace to receive Thy holy Sacraments at the hour of my death, and glory everlasting.

Amen.

Prayer in Honour of the Most Holy and Adorable Name of Jesus

Jesus! O Name of Jesus! Sweet Name! Delightful Name! Consoling Name! For what else is Jesus than Saviour! Therefore, O Jesus, for Thy sweet Name’s sake, be to me a Jesus, and save me. Suffer me not to be eternally lost. O good Jesus! Let not my iniquities destroy me, whom Thy bounty made. O sweet Jesus! Recognize in me what is Thine, and efface all that is not Thine. O sweet Jesus! Show mercy now in the time of mercy, and condemn me not in the day of justice. What profit to Thy Precious Blood, or what honour will my destruction give Thy Holy Name, O Jesus! “The dead shall not praise Thee, O Lord Jesus! Nor all they that go down to Hell.” Most amiable Jesus! Most meek, most loving Jesus! O Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Admit me to the number of Thy elect. O Jesus, salvation of those who believe in Thee! Comfort of those who fly to Thee! O Jesus, Son of the Virgin Mary! Give me grace, wisdom, charity, purity, and humility, that I may love Thee perfectly, praise Thee, enjoy Thee, serve Thee, and be glorified in Thee, with all those who call upon Thy Name, Thy Holy Name, Thy Sweet name, Jesus.

Amen.

Prayer in Honour of the Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Most holy and afflicted Virgin,
Queen of Martyrs,
you stood beneath the cross,
witnessing the agony of your dying Son.
Look with a mother’s tenderness and pity on me,
who kneel before you.
I venerate your sorrows
and I place my requests
with filial confidence
in the sanctuary of your wounded heart.

Present them, I beseech you,
on my behalf to Jesus Christ,
through the merits of His own most sacred passion and death,
together with your sufferings
at the foot of the cross.
Through the united efficacy of both,
obtain the granting of my petition.
To whom shall I have recourse in my wants and miseries
if not to you, Mother of Mercy?
You have drunk so deeply of the chalice of your Son,
you can compassionate our sorrows.

Holy Mather, your soul was pierced
by a sword of sorrow
at the sight of the passion of your Divine Son.
Intercede for me and obtain for me from our Lord

(State your intention here….)

it it be for His honor and glory,
and for my good.

Amen.

A Prayer for Hope

Heavenly father, I am your humble servant,
I come before you today in need of hope.
There are times when I feel helpless,
There are times when I feel weak.
I pray for hope.

I need hope for a better future.
I need hope for a better life.
I need hope for love and kindness.

Some say that the sky is at it’s
darkest just before the light.

I pray that this is true, for all seems dark.
I need your light, Lord, in every way.

I pray to be filled with your light from
head to toe. To bask in your glory.

To know that all is right in the world,
as you have planned, and as you want
it to be.

Help me to walk in your light, and live
my life in faith and glory.

In your name I pray, Amen.
