The Holy Name of Jesus 1

Jesus While reflecting on the Holy Name of Jesus, the faithful repeats over and over the Holy Name of “Jesus” in a pious manner. Many of the Saints had a great love for the Holy Name of Jesus. Among a few, there was the Apostle Paul, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, St. Dominic, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis de Sales and St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The Holy Name of Jesus represents the incarnation of God among men on earth. It is the Name above all names. It is the Most Holy Name that deserves the greatest honour and glories, above all other feasts. Because of our living hope in the Name of “Jesus”, we have the assurance of our resurrection and eternal salvation.

Before the change of Church regulations regarding Indulgences, each time the name of Jesus was invoked, the prayerful soul gained 300 days indulgence that could be applied towards the souls in Purgatory.

The Holy Name of Jesus 2

This is the shortest and yet the most powerful of all prayers. It has one word, the Holy Name of:
Jesus

Prayer for Holy Saturday

This prayer is designed to be said within the family before a Crucifix on Holy Saturday.

No candles are lit on this day.
Mother or a child:

“May our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who alone by His powerful word governs all things, yet has buried the shame of the Cross and iron bonds,
who has broken the bars of the bronze doors and has descended into hell, who has shone with the brightness of a new light on those who were sitting in the shadow of death, may He,
the sun of justice, rising from the tomb, shine upon our darkness with the marvelous light of his risen Body.”

Father:
The women sitting at the sepulchre
Family:
were weeping and lamenting for the Lord.
Father:
Let us pray.

O God, who makes this most holy night illustrious by the glory of the resurrection of our Lord, preserve in the new children of your family the spirit of adoption which You have given, that, renewed in body and soul, they may give You a pure service. This we ask of You through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.

Family:
Amen.
Father:
Let us bless the Lord.
Family:
Thanks be to God.
Father:
May the almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless and keep us.
Family:

Amen.

A Prayer for the Holy Souls

O Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory, deliver the souls of all the faithful departed from the pains of hell and from the bottomless pit; deliver them from the lion’s mouth, that hell not swallow them up, that they fall not into darkness, but let the holy standard bearer Michael bring them into that holy light which You promised to Abraham and his seed.

Oh Holy Spirit, You are the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity. You are the Spirit of truth, love and holiness, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and equal to Them in all things. I adore You and love You with all my heart. Teach me to know and to seek God, by whom and for whom I was created. Fill my heart with a holy fear and a great love for Him. Give me compunction and patience, and do not let me fall into sin.

Increase faith, hope and charity in me and bring forth in me all the virtues proper to my state of life. Help me to grow in the four cardinal virtues, Your seven gifts and Your twelve fruits.

Make me a faithful follower of Jesus, an obedient child of the Church and a help to my neighbor. Give me the grace to keep the commandments and to receive the sacraments worthily. Raise me to holiness in the state of life to which You have called me, and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Grant me also, O Holy Spirit, Giver of all good gifts, the special favor for which I ask {name special petition}, if it be for Your honor and glory and for my well being.

Amen.

OR

Holy Spirit of light and love, you are the substantial love of the Father and the Son; hear my prayer. Bounteous bestower of most precious gifts, grant me a strong and living faith which makes me accept all revealed truths and shape my conduct in accord with them. Give me a most confident hope in all divine promises which prompts me to abandon myself unreservedly to you and your guidance. Infuse into me a love of perfect goodwill, and act according to God’s least desires. Make me love not only my friends but my enemies as well, in imitation of Jesus Christ who through you offered himself on the Cross for all people. Holy Spirit, animate, inspire, and guide me, and help me to be always a true follower of you.

Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit 3

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill my heart with Your holy gifts.

Let my weakness be penetrated with Your strength this very day
that I may fulfill all the duties of my state conscientiously,
that I may do what is right and just.

Let my charity be such as to offend no one,
and hurt no one’s feelings;
so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me.

Assist me, O Holy Spirit,
in all my trials of life,
enlighten me in my ignorance,
advise me in my doubts,
strengthen me in my weakness,
help me in all my needs,
protect me in temptations
and console me in afflictions.

Graciously hear me, O Holy Spirit,
and pour Your light into my heart,
my soul, and my mind.

Assist me to live a holy life
and to grow in goodness and grace.

Amen.
