A Devotion in Honour of the Sorrowful Heart of Mary

V. Incline unto my aid, O Lord.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory Be…

1. I compassionate Thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for that affliction which thy tender heart suffered
at the time of the prophecy of the holy old man Simeon.
O dear Mother,
by thy heart thus afflicted,
obtain for me the virtue of humility,
and the gift of the fear of God.

Hail Mary…

2. I compassionate thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for those bitter pangs
which thy most feeling heart suffered
in thy flight and sojourn in Egypt.
O dear Mother,
by thy heart immersed in so great sorrows,
obtain for me the virtue of liberality,
especially towards the poor,
and the gift of piety.

Hail Mary…

3. I compassionate thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for those griefs
which thy solicitous heart experienced
in the loss of thy beloved Son.
O dear Mother,
by thy heart filled with maternal anxieties,
obtain for me the virtue of chastity
and the gift of knowledge.

Hail Mary…
4. I compassionate thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for that sorrow which oppressed thy maternal heart,
in meeting Jesus carrying His Cross.
O dear Mother,
by thy most loving heart,
so much afflicted,
obtain for me the virtue of patience,
and the gift of fortitude.

Hail Mary…

5. I compassionate thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for that martyrdom which thy generous heart sustained,
in being present with thine agonizing Jesus.
O dear Mother, by thy heart undergoing so severe a
martyrdom,
obtain for me the virtue of temperance,
and the gift of counsel.

Hail Mary…

6. I compassionate thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for those pangs which thine afflicted heart endured,
when the lance pierced the side of Jesus,
and wounded His most amiable Heart.
O dear Mother, by thy heart transfixed,
obtain for me the virtue of fraternal charity,
and the gift of understanding.

Hail Mary…

7. I compassionate thee,
sorrowing Mary,
for that anguish which thy loving heart
experienced in the burial of Jesus.
O dear Mother,
by thy sacred heart,
thus steeped in bitter grief,
obtain for me the virtue of diligence,
and the gift of wisdom.

Hail Mary…

V. Pray for us, O most sorrowful Virgin,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promise of Christ.

Let Us Pray, – We beseech Thee,
O Lord Jesus Christ,
that the Blessed Virgin Mary
whose heart at the time of Thy passion
was pierced through with the sword of sorrow,
may intercede for us before the throne of mercy,
now and at the hour of our death;
who, with the Father and the Holy Ghost,
livest and reignest,
one God, world without end.

Amen.

Dialogued Prayer on the Beatitudes

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Keep us from being preocuppied with money and worldly goods, and with trying to increase them at the expense of justice. Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.” Help us not to be ruthless with one another, and to eliminate the discord and violence that exists in the world around us. Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Let us not be impatient under our own burdens and unconcerned about the burdens of others.

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be filled.” Make us thirst for you, the fountain of all holiness, and actively spread your influence in our private lives and in society.

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” Grant that we may be quick to forgive and slow to condemn.

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God.” Free us from our senses and our evil desires, and fix our eyes on you.

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” Aid us to make peace in our families, in our country, and in the world.

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of justice, for the kingdom of heaven in theirs.” Make us willing to suffer for the sake of right rather than to practice injustice; and do not let us discriminate against our neighbors and oppress and persecute them.

Direction of the Intention before Holy Communion 1

I intend to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass,
and to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus
Christ,
according to the rite of the holy Roman Church,
to the praise of Almighty God
and of the whole Church on earth;
for all those who have commended themselves unto my
prayers,
in general and in particular;
and for the happy estate of the holy Roman Church.

Amen.

Joy with peace,
amendment of life,
time for true repentance,
the grace and comfort of the Holy Ghost,
perseverance in good works,
a contrite and humble heart,
and a happy consummation of my life,
grant unto me,
O Almighty and merciful Lord.

Amen.

Divine Glory and Human Digni

How great is your name, O Lord our God, through al the earth!

When I see the heavens, the work of your hands, the moon and the stars which you arranged, what are we that you should keep us in mind, men and women that you care for us?

Yet you have made us little less than gods; and crowned us with glory and honour, gave us power over the works of your hands, put all things under our feet.

How great is your name, O Lord our God through all the earth!

(Psalm 8)

Divine Mercy

Eternal God,
in whom mercy is endless
and the treasury of compassion
inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us
and increase Your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments
we might not despair
nor become despondent,
but with great confidence
submit ourselves to Your holy will,
which is Love and Mercy itself.

Amen.

Prayer to the Divine Mercy

O Lord, behold here before You a soul who exists in this world in order to allow You to exercise Your admirable mercy and manifest it before heaven and earth. Others may glorify You through their faithfulness and perseverance, thus making evident the power of Your grace. How sweet and generous You are to those who are faithful to You!

Nevertheless, I will glorify You by acquainting others of Your goodness to sinners and by reminding them that Your mercy is above all malice, that nothing can exhaust it, and that no relapse, no matter how shameful or criminal, should allow the sinner to despair of forgiveness.

I have offended You grievously, O Beloved Redeemer, but it would be still worse if I were to offend You by thinking that You were lacking in goodness to forgive me. I would rather He deprive me of everything else than the trust I have in Your Mercy.

Should I fall a hundred times or should my crimes be a hundred times worse that they actually are, I would continue to trust in Your mercy.

Amen.
