A Prayer in Time of Distress

I shall walk through dark valleys, I fear no harm for you are at my side. Your rod and staff shall give me courage, No evil shall befall me, No weakness in my stride.

God wills not my foot to slip Or my guardian sleep, He guides me from all evil,

The Lord is my guardian; The Lord the shade I keep, By day the sun cannot harm me Or the moon by night.

For the Lord said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled, Have faith in God and also in me. In my Father’s house There are many dwelling places. If there were not, Would I have told you That I am going to prepare A place for you?

And if I go And prepare a place for you, I will come back again And take you to myself, So that where I am You also may be.”
If the Lord is with us, Who can be against us?

Prayer in Time of Illness

Lord Jesus, you came into the world to heal our infirmities and to endure our sufferings. You went about healing all and bringing comfort to those in pain and need. We come before you now in this time of illness asking that you may be the source of our strength in body, courage in spirit and patience in pain. May we join ourselves more closely to you on the cross and in your suffering that through them we may draw our patience and hope. Assist us and restore us to health so that united more closely to your family, the Church, we may give praise and honour to your name.

Amen.

Prayer in Time of Need

Jesus, do not leave me alone in suffering. You know, Lord, how weak I am. I am an abyss of wretchedness, I am nothingness itself; So what will be so strange If You leave me alone and I fall?

I am an infant, Lord, So I cannot get along by myself. However, beyond all abandonment I trust, And in spite of my own feeling I trust, And I am being completely transformed into trust, Often in spite of what I feel.
Do not lessen any of my sufferings, Only give me strength to bear them. Do with me as You please, Lord, Only give me the grace to be able to love You, In every event and circumstances.

Lord, do not lessen my cup of bitterness, Only give me strength That I may be able to drink it all.

Amen.

Prayer in Time of Sickness

O Jesus, You suffered and died for us; You understand suffering; Teach me to understand my suffering as You do; To bear it in union with You; To offer it with You to atone for my sins And to bring Your grace to souls in need. Calm my fears; increase my trust. May I gladly accept Your holy will and become more like You in trial. If it be Your will, restore me to health so that I may work for Your honor and glory and the salvation of all men.

Amen.

Prayer in Time of Sickness or Trial

O good Jesus, I accept willingly this sickness [or trial] which it has pleased you to lay upon me. I confide all my pains to your Sacred Heart, and beg you to unite them with your bitter sufferings, and thus perfect them by making them your own.

Since I cannot render you the praise due to you because of the multitude of my sorrows and afflictions, I ask you to praise God the Father for all I suffer, with the same tribute of praise you offered him when your agony on the Cross was at its height.

As you thanked him with all the powers of your soul for all the sufferings and injustice which he willed you should endure, so, I pray you, give him thanks for my trials also. Offer my sufferings, physical and spiritual, to him together with your most holy pains to his eternal honor and glory.

Amen.

Prayer in Time of Sleeplessness

Lord Jesus Christ, During Your earthly sojourn You went sleepness at times and spent whole nights in prayer. But there were many other times when You slept. I cannot seem to get to sleep these nights and I cannot even pray.

Please help me cure this sickness, Lord, for I desperately need sleep to do my work and to behave as a pleasant human being as well as to act in a christian manner. Enable me to get a goods nights sleep, or at least to spend my time in prayer with You.

Thank You Lord.

Prayer in Time of Suffering 1

Behold me, my beloved Jesus,
weighed down under the burden of my trials and sufferings,
I cast myself at Your feet,
that You may renew my strength and my courage,
while I rest here in Your Presence.
Permit me to lay down my cross in Your Sacred Heart,
for only Your infinite goodness can sustain me;
only Your love can help me bear my cross;
only Your powerful hand can lighten its weight.
O Divine King, Jesus,
whose heart is so compassionate to the afflicted,
I wish to live in You;
suffer and die in You.
During my life be to me my model and my support;
At the hour of my death,
be my hope and my refuge.

Amen.

Prayer in a Time of Waiting 2

All powerful and ever-living God,
Guard our churches, our homes, our schools,
our hospitals, our factories, and all the places where we
gather.
Deliver us from harm and peril.
Protect our land and its peoples from enemies within and
without.
Grant an early peace with victory founded upon justice.
Instill in the hearts and minds of men and women everywhere
a firm purpose to live forever in peace and good will
toward all.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayer for Travelers 1

O Almighty and merciful God, who hast commissioned Thy angels to guide and protect us, command them to be our assiduous companions from our setting out until our return; to clothe us with their invisible protection; to keep from us all danger of collision, of fire, of explosion, of fall and bruises, and finally, having preserved us from all evil, and especially from sin, to guide us to our heavenly home. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
